Sports Massage

Sports massage addresses the needs of the athlete. The athlete and therapist focus on specific goals during the off-season, during athletic training, and during competition. Specifically:

    • Avoiding injury
    • Improving performance
    • Preventing delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).
Sports massage - injury prevention, performance improvement, delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)

Contrary to popular belief, sports massage is not defined by any particular massage technique. Sports massage focuses on muscle groups and soft tissues relevant to the athlete's sport, as well as the athlete's personal goals and level of competition.

The following table offers some suggested guidelines for sports massage by type of athlete:

Recreational
Competitive
Professional
Preparatory Massage
Pre-Event Massage
Between Event Massage
Post-Event Massage
Preventative Massage
Restorative Massage

Even with regular sports massage, the stress of too much training and competition frequently causes excessive trauma to the athlete's body. In these cases I offer Medical Massage and will work with your other healthcare providers to help your body heal.

SPORTS MASSAGE

»

Balances muscle groups and soft tissues of the body, reducing the chance of injury during training and competition.
» Shortens recovery time between workouts, allowing greater training intensity.

»

Improves range of motion and muscle flexibility, resulting in improved efficiency, power and performance.
» Increases blood flow, which improves the supply of nutrients to the soft tissues and helps elimination of metabolic byproducts of exercise, resulting in less discomfort after extreme efforts.
