Sports
massage addresses the needs of the athlete. The athlete
and therapist focus on specific goals during
the off-season, during athletic training, and during competition.
Specifically:
- Avoiding
injury
- Improving
performance
- Preventing
delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

Contrary
to popular belief, sports massage is not defined by any
particular massage technique. Sports massage focuses on
muscle groups and soft tissues relevant to the athlete's
sport, as well as the athlete's personal goals and level
of competition.
The
following table offers some suggested guidelines for sports massage
by type of athlete: |

Even with regular
sports massage, the stress of too much training and competition
frequently causes excessive trauma to the athlete's body.
In these cases I offer Medical Massage and will work
with your other healthcare providers to help your
body heal.
